Scientific advances are helping to improve society's quality of life, with a notable increase in life expectancy. Thanks to research focused on anticipating the manifestation of ailments, there is hope that, in the future, the adverse effects of diseases can be controlled.
Tackling the "physical deterioration caused by disease" is one of the great battles being waged in research in fields such as regenerative biology, which is looking further into the search for alternatives that involve "improving the patient's health by using their own cells". This opens the door to personalised medicine, where new therapies can be tested and the most appropriate one found for each patient. This is an aspect in which companies working in the search for drugs are very interested
Aware of this, the Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX) has launched the Regenerative Biology and New Therapies Doctoral Programme, which has the collaboration of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III and the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Carlos. An international and cross-disciplinary programme aimed at graduates in biomedical or experimental sciences, including graduates in Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Veterinary Medicine or Pharmacy.
This doctoral programme offers students training that will enable them to join the world of research, a clinic, pharmaceutical companies or the world of industrial applications. The programme, committed to training high quality researchers and with first class research teams, is intense, exhaustive and personalised.
A forward-looking educational experience that is not limited to the classroom. The PhD programme includes stays of "at least three months in a laboratory outside the UAX, in Spain or abroad".
This programme is presented with two lines of research:
Programme coordinator:
Academic Committee:
Other professionals who are not associated with the programme's lines of research, but who have a relevant qualification in the corresponding field of knowledge, may collaborate in these activities.
The training activities scheduled for this doctoral programme are:
The PhD programme is based on a theoretical-practical methodology to offer you an enriching training in the field of Health Sciences.
The strategic alliance between UAX, the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, the Hospital Clínico San Carlos and the CSIC has made it possible to offer a top-level research team that guarantees quality training.
In addition, you will be able to enrich your training with stays in foreign centres of recognised prestige, which will give your studies an international dimension, such as:
The PhD Programme in Regenerative Biology and New Therapies has the following material resources and infrastructures:
In addition, doctoral students have access to the laboratories and resources available in the institutions and centres with which the appropriate collaboration agreements have been established: CSIC, Hospital Clínico San Carlos and, specifically, the Hospital Clínico San Carlos.
Within the PhD programme in Regenerative Biology and New Therapies, and its framework of strategic alliances to offer an enriching education focused on training professionals who respond to the demands of society, the UAX has signed a strategic agreement with ESAME Pharmaceutical Business School, with the aim of offering the option of developing an INDUSTRIAL DOCTORATE programme.
WHAT IS THE INDUSTRIAL DOCTORATE?
This type of doctorate is carried out within companies, both in the private and public sector, in which the doctoral thesis will be developed within a company project focused on research and innovation in new therapies, for three years in a business environment, bringing university research closer to and adapting it to the needs of the company and responding to the challenges that society demands.
Through this option, the UAX wishes to professionally train those future PhDs interested in a professional future in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnological and/or Healthcare Industry, turning them into researchers with an essential background to enhance their incorporation into the pharmaceutical industry.
WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES IT OFFER THE STUDENT?
You will have the opportunity to join a Research, Development and Innovation project with a company in the Pharma sector, which will generate high added value to your CV.
You will have the support and constant supervision of professionals who carry out research activity in the business environment, in addition to the university itself. This will facilitate your progress.
You will be able to work in the facilities of companies in the sector, immersing yourself in the R+D+i activity of a company in the Pharma sector.
A great opportunity of this doctorate is to receive complementary training with the aim of acquiring skills and knowledge that are of great interest and useful to companies in the Pharma sector.
Finally, your training in this industrial doctorate will enhance your profile as a high-value professional for companies in the Pharma, Biotech or Healthcare sector, due to the business training in the area of R&D&I received.
